The death toll currently stands at 84 in the horrific bush fires raging in Victoria State, Australia. Several people have been burnt alive in their cars whilst trying to escape from the bushfires in the tinder dry area which has wiped some entire towns off the map. One lucky and fast thinking family rode out the fire by hiding in a cellar and live to tell the tale. The Australian Prime Minister has arrived on the scene and is been comforting some of the distraught survivors many of whom have lost family in addition to their homes and possesions. At Soundphere our wishes and condolences are with those affected by this truely horrific disaster.
Former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant insists that he and lead guitarist Jimmy Page remain good friends even though he has refused to tour with the band.
Plant, being interviewed by BBC Radio Wales, said “I still see Jimmy quite a lot and he’s very complimentary and supportive of what I’m doing, but we are in different places now and you have to go on to do different things.”
Plant also said he found the ongoing speculation around the band’s future “frustrating and ridiculous”.
Bass guitarist John Paul Jones, lead guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Jason Bonham are believed to be planning to tour without Plant.

Positioned on the south coast of the northern tip of this crescent-shaped island, you are able to see white clusters of villages sprinkled on top of the steep cliffs that drop into the deep waters of the caldera. With recent talk of Led Zeppelin reforming and going on tour albeit without Robert Plant, who has ruled himself out for the next two years at least. Zeppelin without Plant is unthinkable as Robert Plant’s unique voice defines Led Zeppelin. Here is a You-Tube clip of Zeppelin performing Black Dog back in 1973 which only goes to reinforce the irreplaceability of Robert Plant.
It has been reported that the U.S. military has been using continuous exposure to Rock music in an apparent effort to soften up Guantanamo detainees prior to interrogation. The public has heard that some well-known classic rock tracks have been deemed appropriate by the U.S. military as part of their softening up approach on the detainees. Australian rock bank AC/DC hits “Hell’s Bells” and “Shoot To Thrill” were used together with Bruce Springsteen’s patriotic track “Born In The USA” and Queen’s “We Are The Champions”.
I think anyone can appreciate the probability that being subjected to the same music endlessly for long periods of time would become quite unpleasant, even if it was your favorite group or favorite song. I myself used to work in the Brussels office of a major US corporation where Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons was played on a continuous loop at low volume levels and after a while it drives you completely nuts.
Jeff Beck has slammed Led Zeppelin’s plans for a comback without their iconic lead singer Robert Plant. Beck insisted it would be pointless without their legendary former lead singer Plant, who has repeatedly refused to join his old band mates full-time and who prefers the quiet life of living in rural Worcestershire, England. 60-year-old Plant killed off all speculation of a tour in September 2008 by announcing that he has, “no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years.”
Led Zepplin reformed to play a one off event, complete with Plant, at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007 which was a massive success. Beck himself is something of a legend, the 64-year-old legend who played with the cult group The Yardbirds together with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and also with another rock legend Eric Clapton. Beck was full of praise for Zepplin’s one-off concert last year at London’s O2 Arena.
Beck believes that plans for a full-blown are pointless without Plant. Beck said, “I really don’t think it’s a good idea, not if Robert doesn’t want to. I was there at the one-off show at the O2 Arena and it was fantastic. But I think they should just leave it there.
“They will have been offered loads of money and it’ll be tempting but that’s not a good enough reason to me.
“It would be different if they all wanted to do it and record new material but that’s not the case.”
Plant’s recent single with Alison Krauss, has earned five Grammy nominations last week, including record of the year, “Please Read the Letter”, and album of the year, “Raising Sand”. The pair also secured nominations for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals, “Rich Woman”, the best country collaboration with vocals, “Killing the Blues”, and for best contemporary Americana album.
